This morning saw the return of Milan Lucic to the Bruins after missing Sunday's game due to personal reasons, but it also saw another third of the team miss practice. Seven Bruins were absent because of flu-like symptoms. Head Coach Claude Julien had enough players for just three forward lines and only one goalie.
Patrice Bergeron, Gregory Campbell, Nathan Horton, Daniel Paille, Andrew Ference, Adam McQuaid and Anton Khudobin were not on the ice this morning. It is unclear if any will be available for Thursday's game at Tampa Bay.
"We're hoping it's a short-term thing, which it seems to be," Julien said. 'It's that the case (to call up players), we'd do that tomorrow, if that was the case."
The Bruins already have Jay Pandolfo and Lane MacDermid with the club, so if call ups are needed there shouldn't be too many. But if they are needed, Ryan Spooner and Jamie Tardif could see their second stint in Boston this season. Spooner has been tearing up the AHL recently and with so many Bruins sick, he could see a bigger role this time around.
If Khudobin can't play Thursday, either Michael Hutchinson or Niklas Svedberg could get the call. It would be the first trip to the NHL for both goalies.
