The Boston Bruins have signed veteran Jay Pandolfo to a one-year, $600,000 contract. It is a two-way deal where Pandolfo will make $350,000 in Providence.
Pandolfo had been on a professional tryout since the beginning of training camp. After signing, Pandolfo was placed on waivers and will be sent to Providence if he clears. It's very likely that he will clear waivers as any team could have signed him but didn't.
With the Bruins back to full health, there is no room for the Burlington, Mass. native in Boston. He'll play in Providence until the Bruins need him. If he does get called up to Boston, it will be as a depth player and penalty kill specialist. After the injuries to Daniel Paille and Brad Marchand last week, having Pandolfo in Providence is added insurance. Expect Pandolfo to be one of the first players recalled if injuries strike the Bruins again.
Pandolfo 100 goals and 126 assists in his NHL career. He last played with the New York Islanders last season.
