According to the Boston Globe's Fluto Shinzawa, the Bruins will open this season against the New York Rangers at the TD Garden. While there is still time for this change, it seems unlikely. This matchup provides the NHL with two Original Six teams and two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference going head-to-head in the first game of a 48-game schedule. The NHL couldn't ask for a better matchup.
If the Rangers so in fact come to Boston, it will be the first time NHL fans will see Rick Nash in Ranger blue. The Rangers acquired Nash from the Columbus Blue Jackets in a July 23, 2012 trade.
The Bruins went just 1-2-1 against the Rangers. Three of the four games were decided by one goal but only one game went into overtime. This season's meetings shouldn't be any less exciting and tight.
